The
Chicago Influence
Initially the move to Chicago was intimidating to say the least. It took me almost two months
to acclimate to city living. The most startling influence has been the number of people. A series of paintings and drawings,
abstracted from clothing and body parts came out of the experience. I also continued working plein aire using my new home
as my subject
One of the main things I wanted to do while at SAIC was learn, definitively, how to create space in
the two dimensional plane. Surprisingly, I knew a lot about how to do that, my problem was that I was focused on the outcome
of my endeavors instead of considering the development of an image. The solution I found lies in the abstract elements; the
nuts and bolts of actually building an image that will grab the viewer's attention and (hopefully) offer some reward. I'm
not saying that I know it all now I just have more tools at my disposal.
And that is a good feeling.
